How about driving up to see the beaches and scenery of the northeast aspect of the peninsula. Take the road to Colville and then head east over the ranges to Waikawau and Little Bay and on via Tuateawa and Kennedy Bay and so back to Coromandel Town.

In Colville you will find a fascinating general store, a Himalaya Store selling a variety of local arts and crafts and the quality Green Snapper Cafe.

En-route, it is well worth taking a side track down to Waitete Bay. There you will find a beautiful unspoilt beach and a great swimming spot. To get there, go past Amodeo Bay and immediately after taking a sharp right turn away from the sea, there is a track which drops off steeply to the left. It's quite safe but on first sight can surprise some folk. So be prepared and take it easy.

Having enjoyed the delights of Colville, carry on North to a T-junction and take the turn right turn.

At the next junction, go right again to explore the stunning Waikawau beach (surf and swim) and Little Bay (ideal swimming spot). Little Bay has toilets and shade on the beach from majestic Pohutakawa trees.

Enjoy the stunning scenery on your way back to Coromandel Town particularly the views from the top of the ranges at Tokatea Lookout.
